Talk – Saturday 18th February

On Saturday 18th February at 2:30 pm in the Grand Salon in Charlton House, Barbara Holland, Caroline Love and Judy Wolfram will present a talk on ‘A History of Gardens and Growing in Charlton’ – the talk will look at how the land in Charlton and the surrounding area has been used over time for growing food.
They will cover:
  •  what was happening in the 18th and 19th centuries in farming and market gardening
  • the estates and gardens of the ‘Big Houses’ such as East Combe and Bramhope Lodge.
  • allotments and how they developed from the 19th century, looking particularly at their expansion during WW1 and WW2
  • the importance of community growing spaces today and for the future

We hope to see you there!
