Gwen Jones‘ grandfather was a costermonger in Woolwich Market, which gave her the right to claim the title of Pearly Queen of Greenwich after it had lain dormant for many years. A two year apprenticeship had to be completed before an informal ceremony saw her crowned as Queen.
